Cheap Prepaid Cards in Singapore

To save on calls back home, a good and cheap way is to purchase prepaid calling cards.

Today I am reviewing the prepaid cards in Singapore and my thoughts on why you can use them to save (instead of expensive roaming calls).

BENEFITS 1 - FREE* CALLS HOME!
Buying a prepaid card in Singapore typically offers great savings in the form of FREE* IDD international calls home! I try to illustrate this better below by categorizing them by destinations
a. Bangladesh (SingTel, Starhub, M1)
b. Brunei (SingTel, Starhub, M1)
c. Canada (SingTel, Starhub, M1)
d. China (SingTel, Starhub, M1)
e. Hong Kong (SingTel, Starhub, M1)
f. India (SingTel, Starhub, M1)
g. Malaysia (SingTel, Starhub, M1)
h. Puerto Rico (SingTel, Starhub, M1)
i. South Korea (SingTel, Starhub, M1)
j. Thailand (SingTel, Starhub, M1)
k. USA (SingTel, Starhub, M1)
l. Australia (Starhub, M1 applies to Australia residential lines only)
m. New Zealand (Starhub, M1 applies to NZ residential lines only)
n. Laos (Starhub)
o. Macau (Starhub)
p. Russia (Starhub)
q. Taiwan (Starhub)
r. United Kingdom (Starhub, M1 applies to NZ residential lines only)
*To enjoy these free IDD calls, you have to make sure that you use the corresponding dialing codes
SingTel - Dial 019(country code)(area code)(phone number)
Starhub - Dial 018(country code)(area code)(phone number)
M1 - Dial 021(country code)(area code)(phone number)
Local talktime charges from 8 to 16 singapore cents per minute still apply.

BENEFITS 2! ALLOWS ROAMING!
Yes! Let's assume you are travelling to Malaysia from Singapore, or from Singapore to Indonesia, or even as far as UK, these prepaid cards still work!
To use them for calls when you go beyond Singapore, look out for my next update =)
BENEFITS 3! LONG EXPIRY PERIOD!
Most cards have an active period of 6 months, lasting up to a full year before they are terminated. This is unlike other countries' prepaid cards which typically have a shorter lifetime.
BENEFITS 4! MANAGE ROAMING CALLS & SMS
Offers peace of mind! You won't spend beyond what you can afford with prepaid cards(not like roaming).
Do note that these are updated as of 29 Nov and the free IDD promotions may vary (I do not expect them to change too much). These cards can be easily bought at the arrival hall at Changi Airport and at multiple shops all over Singapore.

Free SMSes to U.S. friends in Singapore

There's a free SMS service from Google, that allows you to send SMSes to friends who are with U.S. mobile carriers. Essentially this lets you send at no charge to your friend who is roaming in Singapore, but of course he/she might end up replying and paying roaming SMS charges.

But it's still probably a good service to try, since you can drop a quick and free note to someone. Try it at Google Send to Phone. No registration is needed.

Give your feedback how this service is and make it better for the rest who are coming to Singapore.
